What is the difference between Private Pilates taught by a Physical Therapist (PT/Pilates) versus a Pilates Fitness Teacher (Fit Pilates)?
There is a difference in skill, experience, and scope of practice when dealing with clients who currently have or have had past injuries or physical limitations. These clients may require different exercise progressions or adaptations of the exercises based on their medical history.
Will my insurance, Flex-Spend, or HSA account cover Pilates?
The Bridge-The-Gap-Pilates program is an advanced wellness program to reach your highest potential beyond what is medically necessary. This service is not billable to your insurance. However, your HSA account or flexible spending accounts might cover wellness services. Please get this information from your Health Representative.

What is the Pilates method?
The pilates method uses the mind-body technique to focus on stabilizing the central core. Developing a strong central core helps us control movements and utilize breath to better aid in the recovery process.
There are two types of Pilates categories: matwork and machine based work. Matwork consists of strength, mobility, and stretching techniques done on a floor mat. The purpose of these exercises is to find and develop a stable central core. Machine based work uses many of the same techniques as matwork, but with the assistance of a spring loaded pilates machine.
The Eight Principles of Pilates
For beginners, finding and utilizing breath can be one of the hardest aspects of pilates. By focusing on breath, the student both oxygenates the muscles and supports difficult movements using the abdominal compression obtained when releasing breath.
Pilates requires that the mind be aware during the entirety of each exercise. This is so that the user can understand their body in order to correct alignment factors.
During pilates it is important to control each movement. This is to better hone the body part the user is working on.
Often the center is referred to as the “power-house”. Each exercise aims to strengthen the power-house and can challenge it further with adding different arm and leg movements.
Each precise movement can further help the user with the control and mind-body awareness of each exercise.
The user must move evenly and continuously in order to balance their performance. Stocky and rapid movements does not help with the overall form.
By successfully managing pilates, the user will have built up a more fully understood mind-body. This helps to recognize bad habits as a way to correct them.

What is Rehab Pilates?
Rehab pilates is used to realign, correct, and re-educate the body’s muscles to prevent injuries from happening again. We find that the pilates method works for a lot of our patients because it helps address smaller muscles during rehabilitation.
Many people are surprised to hear that injuries recur because of poor movement practices the body makes. We are hardly aware of these bad habits when they form and it ends up taking a toll on our physical functioning. Some things our bodies do without our knowing is overpowering the weak muscles. This helps us get through the activities we need to do in our day-to-day lives, but in reality, making no change to bettering our movements makes us susceptible to more injury.
